Toilets should NEVER be treated as a rubbish bin.
That's the message of a new video, produced by The Food and Grocery Council (FGC) and Water New Zealand.
Entitled Avoid a flood - think before you flush, it’s being distributed to schools and via social media.
FGC Chief Executive Katherine Rich says a lot of things get flushed down toilets that shouldn’t, such as make-up wipes, paper towels, baby wipes and tissues.
They have been working on the issue since 2015, partnering with Water NZ to form the Wet Wipes Advisory Group. They also approached Master Plumbers to gain a better understanding of the problem.
