A: Hot water is one of the biggest users of household energy. It accounts for between 30% and 45% of total household energy use. A solar water heating system can provide you with 50% to 75% of your yearly hot water needs, cutting your power bills by as much as $450 a year.
Solar energy is also good for the environment. It is a renewable energy source, with the potential to help cut greenhouse emissions and take the load off other energy resources.
To encourage greater use of solar energy, the Government is offering financial assistance of up to $1000 to help homeowners install SWH systems. Find out more about solar and the available finance on EECA's Energywise website.
