Master Guarantee - Terms & Conditions
The Master Guarantee issued by Master Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers NZ Inc and its constituent Associations is issued subject to the terms and conditions set out below:
- The liability of Master Plumbers under this guarantee is limited to work to a value of not more than $15,000 or, in the case of insolvency of a member, work and materials to a value of not more than $25,000.
- Where a consumer is dissatisfied with a completed contract and provides a written complaint Master Plumbers will investigate and provide to the consumer a written assessment of the quality of workmanship and advice as to whether or not further work is required to complete or remedy unsatisfactory work.
- Master Plumbers will use its best endeavours to mediate a solution with its member to achieve a satisfactory outcome for the consumer. If this is not achieved Master Plumbers will in good faith consider whether or not disciplinary action against its member is justified and may in its discretion take such action. If the complaint is upheld Master Plumbers will have the substandard work or materials remedied by the original contractor or another nominated member.
- Where the services have not been completed or paid for Master Plumbers may require arrangements to be made for payment or securing of payment before providing assessment and mediation services or remedial work under this guarantee.
- This guarantee does not extend to occurrences which would be indemnified under usual householders insurance.
- The payment protection plan to cover loss consequent on the insolvency of the Master Plumber covers workmanship and materials paid for in advance. Master Plumbers will have the same rights to claim in the insolvency as are held by the consumer.
- The Master Guarantee does not cover alterations to the original contract work made without the knowledge and consent of the original contractor.
- Any claim under this guarantee must be brought within one year of completion of the work. The Master Plumbers guarantee is available only to the original consumer who engaged a Master Plumber and not to any subsequent purchaser of the property.
- This Guarantee does not extend to claims arising from unsuccessful identification of the source of leaks, blockages or other similar faults. Roof leaks and blocked drains may require several attempts to resolve and as such are not covered by this guarantee.
- Where the complaint involves faulty materials Master Plumbers will assist in obtaining the benefit of any applicable manufacturers warranties.
- Any claim under this guarantee shall be made in writing to Master Plumbers at the address set out below and shall include such supporting documentation as Master Plumbers shall reasonably require including:
- copy of contract (if applicable)
- proof of purchased products yet to be installed and held by contractor (if applicable).
