GreenPlumbers®

The GreenPlumbers training programme is available to Master Plumbers members and non-members alike.

Green Plumbers logo

The GreenPlumbers programme aims to upskill practitioners on environmental trends and procedures relating to the industry. Environmental awareness is rapidly expanding in New Zealand and the programme is designed to allow you to operate in a knowledgeable and professional manner while also ensuring you comply with the Fair Trading Act.

GreenPlumbers has core compulsory modules and electives - see below. Completion of the full course (5 core modules plus 1 elective) enables a registered plumber to enter into a licensing agreement with MPGD to:

  • display the GreenPlumbers signage on his business and/or vehicle
  • be listed on the Master Plumbers website as a Green Plumber (members only)
  • promote that he has relevant and current skills in the disciplines below

Climate Care (core)

Course description: Develop and advise on domestic plumbing climate care measures.

This unit is designed to develop skills in effectively reducing the greenhouse gas emission impacts of household plumbing services. Work associated with this unit is undertaken within the plumbing and services sector in accordance with relevant New Zealand Standards.

Solar Hot Water (core)

Course description: Identify and advise on solar water heating systems.

This unit specifies the competency required to develop skills in understanding the benefits of solar hot water selection and product for different applications. Work associated with this unit is undertaken within the plumbing and services sector in accordance with relevant New Zealand Standards. All participants must be registered/licensed plumbing practitioners.

Caring for our Water (core)

Course description: Determine water conservation measures.

This unit specifies the competency required to develop skills in effectively increasing water sustainablility and care and improving the management of the water cycle. Work associated with this unit is undertaken within the plumbing and services sector in accordance with relevant New Zealand Standards. All participants must be registered/licensed plumbing practitioners.

Water Efficient Technology (core)

Course description: develop water efficient technology measures.

This unit specifies the competency required to develop skills and knowledge in alternative water sources for urban applications. Work associated with this unit is undertaken within the plumbing and services sector in accordance with relevant New Zealand Standards. All participants must be registered/licensed plumbing practitioners.

Inspection Reports (core)

Course description: Prepare a domestic and commercial building plumbing inspection report.

This unit specifies the skills required to prepare, participate and report for a domestic plumbing inspection report. It addresses the outcomes of the inspection report reviewing inspection documentation, identifying and preparing inspection checklists and report related documentation. In addition, this unit provides for recommendations from the Inspection Report based on a demonstrated knowledge of environmentally efficient plumbing. All participants must be registered/licensed plumbing practitioners.

Principles of Natural Wastewater Treatment Systems (elective)

This unit describes the outcomes required to apply principles of natural wastewater treatment to water systems. Work associated with this unit is undertaken within the plumbing and services sector in accordance with relevant New Zealand Standards. No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Identify and Advise on Efficient Commercial Heated Water Systems (elective)

This unit describes the outcomes required to advise on efficient commercial heated water systems including design options for gas or electric hot water and solar heated water options for small to medium sized commercial buildings. Work associated with this unit is undertaken within the plumbing and services sector in accordance with relevant New Zealand Standards. No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Principles of Residential Pumps (elective)

This unit describes the outcomes required to apply basic principles in selecting, designing and installing urban water pumps. Work associated with this unit is undertaken within the plumbing and services sector in accordance with relevant New Zealand Standards. No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Principles of Urban Irrigation (elective)

This unit describes the outcomes required to apply water sustainability design principles to the design of an urban irrigation system. No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
